My WordPress: Surprisingly It’s Very Easy To Learn

My WordPress learning began with a search on Google about what WordPress is. Subsequently, I researched it on YouTube. In fact, I didn’t know any thing about WordPress when I began researching it.

I didn’t even know that there was an entity with a name WordPress. Then, obviously, I didn’t know that it was a platform for creating a blog or a website.

So, how did I land up to learn WordPress?

Desire To Learn Programming Made Me Learn WordPress Program

In fact, I wanted to learn how computer programs work. And, subsequently, I wanted to make programming my profession and work as a programmer to earn money. So, the first thing I did was I tried to find out if I would get a job in the computer programming field. I did a lot of research on the internet on the scope of finding a job in this field in my particular situation.

And then, I learnt that it was too late for some one at my age to get a job as a computer programmer. The reason for that was that I was almost convinced that the IT companies normally employ youngsters to fill the positions and I was not in that age group.

However, I wanted to pursue a profession that involves working on computer as a computer technology professional, IT professional or the web technology professional. In fact, I am a techno savvy person that has been using Windows PC and the Microsoft Office Suite since 1995. My tech savvy habits had turned me into almost an advance level user of MS Office, particularly the MS Word while working for a Government of India Undertaking until 2003.

Subsequently, I became fully dependent on a Windows PC connected to internet for doing the personal things. These personals included the banking, bills payments, job search to applying for jobs and applying for any services from Government.

However, for earning my monthly salary, I have been away from computers after the year 2003. So, I wanted to do something to make my earning by working on a PC. And that’s why I started my blogging journey.

That made me begin to blog about Windows PC and the WordPress on the WordPress platform.

Journey From Computer Skills To HTML To My WordPress Learning

While I was researching about computer programming, I learnt from some source on internet that one should learn PHP first and then go ahead to learn other programs.

Although, I didn’t learn PHP language, however, I came to know that PHP is a backend server side scripting language.

Then, I realised that PHP was not for me. The reason for me to say this is that I had the impression that I was not going to get a job to work on the server. As I mentioned earlier, I assumed that I was over age to get a job as a server side programmer. Probably, I was right in making that assumption.

While trying to understand what the backend means, I came across a terminology frontend. And then I came to know about the terms HTML, JavaScript and CSS.

Then, I came to know that the HTML, JavaScript and CSS are used for creating a website. Subsequently, I learnt that I could make a website in any niche and start a personal blog of my own and express my ideas in any field of my interest. Also, I could make money the website or blog I create.

That was the time when I got the blogging idea …

At that time, I decided to learn these three languages, HTML, JavaScript and CSS, so that I could make a website or blog. To learn these, I purchased a book and learnt the basics of these languages.

By that time, I was convinced that after learning these languages, I could create a website.

I Learnt That I Didn’t Need To Learn HTML, JavaScript And CSS

However, after a while I learnt that most web developers do not use coding to create a website. Since, a web developer could use WordPress or the other software to create a blog or website, there is no need to learn the HTML, JavaScript and CSS.

It was at this time that my research was over. I decided to concentrate solely on learning WordPress.

I saw WordPress tutors talking in YouTube videos that if somebody knows how to use a word processing program like Microsoft word, then he or she could use WordPress to create a blog or website.

My WordPress Learning Begins Now

I dived deep into researching about software that I could use to create my blog. Then, I found out that the WordPress was more popular than all other software. The other software include Drupal, Magento, Weebly, Joomla and so on.

At that time, I learnt that the WordPress powers about 35 percent of all websites on the internet. I am referring to a time as far back as about 5 years ago.

However, the WordPress has grown and is growing continuously as regards its popularity. As of today, about 40 percent of all websites on the internet has been created on the WordPress platform.

I gathered information on how to use WordPress to create a website on Google search. Also, I saw several YouTube videos showing up in the Google search results.

Subsequently, I watched videos on YouTube about how to create a website or blog on WordPress.

As I mentioned earlier, I have been using MS office on Windows PC for a long time. With that background, I assumed I could create a blog after I do the following:

  • Decide a domain name and purchase it
  • Register the domain and subscribe to a hosting to host my blog

Then, I subscribed to the hosting from Hostgator and purchased and registered my domain, pkailash.com, for my blog.

I was scared that I might mess up with the blog that I was going to create. However, I decided to take a risk. The reason for that was that I had gained some knowledge and info by researching on Google and YouTube. Also, I assumed I would learn more by solving the problems I might get into.
