Windows 10 News And Interests Is An Amazing News Feature

Windows 10 news and interests houses itself on the taskbar in the bottom right corner of your PC’s screen. It provides an easy access to the information that matters to you. So, what does that mean? In simple terms, that means the information that interests you and is important to you. You can view your local weather on the taskbar. Just hover over the icon on the taskbar. Doing do, leads you to the brief news about sports, stocks, sports and even the breaking news.

A Detailed Introduction To Windows News And Interests

In a blog post, Microsoft informed Windows 10 users in April that they would roll out news and interests on the taskbar in a phased manner. They also informed in the same Windows blog that the news and interests would be available to most Windows 10 users in the following several weeks.

Also, Microsoft emphasised the contribution of Windows Insiders towards helping to improve the news and interests. As Microsoft stated, the Insiders gave them valuable feedback that helped them improve the experience.

News and interests is the most convenient way to get your personalised information as soon as you launch your Windows 10 device. It is so because you get your information on the taskbar of your Windows 10 PC simply by hovering over the news and interests icon . Here, I would like to let you know that a Windows 10 cumulative update preview is available for Windows 10 versions 2004, 20H2 and 21H1. This update installs the news and interests feature on a Windows 10 device.

I installed May 21H1 update in the First week of June, 2021 on my Windows 10 PC, version 20H2. While installing this update, I noticed that the cumulative update preview was available for download on the PC. A few days later, I completed this installation, I noticed the news and interests on the taskbar of my PC.

Sometimes it may happen that you find something that interests you but you don’t have time to read it. In that case, you don’t have to worry. The news and interests feature lets you save your content. Also, you can share it.

Now that the introduction to news and interests is over, let us dive a little deeper. Let’s learn how to customise, enable and disable this feature on your Windows 10 PC.

How To Get Microsoft News And Interests On The Taskbar?

I installed Windows 10 May 2021 update on my PC a few weeks ago. While installing this update, I was prompted to download and install an optional update. This was 2021-06 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 21H1 for x64 -based Systems.

The optional update I mentioned above is also code named as KB5003690. This update is available for Windows 10 2004, Windows 10 20H2 and Windows 10 21H1.

Since I have installed the optional update KB5003690 on my PC and Microsoft has enabled news and interests on all devices that have this update, I didn’t have to do anything to have news and interests on the taskbar. Now, without any intervention, the Microsoft news feed appeared on the taskbar of my PC.

I expect you to have news and interests feature on your Windows 10 device if you have everything I mentioned above. However, as many Windows users do not install optional updates, they may not have this feature enabled on their device.

Microsoft released a mandatory Patch Tuesday on June 8, 2021. This patch enabled news and interests on all devices that have this patch.

How To Turn Off News And Interests In Windows 10?

As I mentioned above, Microsoft enabled news and interests feature on most Windows 10 devices. However, many users do not need it. Or, they don’t want to see it on their devices’ taskbar. Some users are confused about why it appears on their device whereas they don’t need it.

That’s why some people want to disable news and interests on their device. If this feature is a problem to you, you don’t have to panic. This can be a problem for many, as everyone can’t be a fan of news and interests.

There is a good news for those who don’t need to have news and interests on their device. And the good news is that you can turn it off. To do so, just right click in the empty area of the taskbar. Then, select News and interests. Of the options that appear, click Turn off. Now, you are done.

Now, you won’t have the news and interests feature annoying you. However, on a later day, you may feel that you need to have it. But, you can’t have it until you turn it back on.

I wrote this post prior to the introduction of Microsoft Start on September 7, 2021. Microsoft Start is a personalised news and interests feed that makes it easy to gather news and information from premium sources at one place on your Windows 10 and 11 devices.

After the introduction of Microsoft Start, the Windows 10 news and interests feed is available as a feed in Microsoft Start. In other words, Microsoft Start replaces Windows 10 news and interests on Windows 10 taskbar. Also, it is available on Windows 11 as a widget. Also, it is available on Android and iOS as an app for mobile users.

Hope this post provides enough information to those who want to know about Widows 10 News and Interests. Also, the information in this post enables you to learn how to get this feature on your Windows 10 device and disable it you don’t need it.
