New Windows 10 OS Features That Make You More Productive
All versions of Microsoft Windows have certain common features. Normally, difference lies in how a user accesses them in different versions.
However, Windows 10 has several new features that make you more productive while you work on your PC. Although, this operating system was built on the foundations of Windows 8, yet it has many new features that it’s predecessor didn’t have. Those features include the following:
Start Menu
The traditional Start menu was missing in Windows 8. Microsoft brought it back in Windows 10. Also, as in Windows 8, the tiles menu has been kept in Windows 10.
Microsoft Edge
The new browser that replaces Internet Explorer provides Windows 10 users a better browsing experience on the web. A very important feature of Windows 10, Microsoft Edge is a faster and more secure browser. Also, it includes several new features. Although Microsoft retained IE, yet recommends using Microsoft Edge as the default browser.
Cortana
Microsoft introduced Cortana as the virtual assistant on your PC. You can talk to Cortana with your PC’s microphone. You can also ask Cortana questions by typing them in Windows search bar on the right side of the Start menu.
Action Centre
It replaces Charms feature available in Windows 8. Action centre provides quick access to several features, like Wi-Fi, connectivity, tablet mode, flight mode etc. It is a pop out window that also provides notifications for Windows and the software installed on your computer.
Multiple Desktops And Task View
Windows 10 features multiple desktops. That way, you can move some of your multiple open windows to a virtual desktop. It would enable you to get the windows out of your way except the one you are working on. The task view feature makes it easy for you to manage all of your open windows.
Tablet Mode Feature Of Windows 10
In Windows 10, you can use your PC as a tablet. The operating system makes a clear distinction between desktop and the tablet. If you use a keyboard and mouse on your Windows 10 powered PC, by default you are in desktop mode. However, if your computer has a touchscreen, you can switch to tablet mode whenever you want. Also, if you are on a Windows 10 powered tablet, you can switch back to desktop if you want so.
Windows 10 Productivity Apps
Windows 10 includes a couple of apps that make the user of this OS more productive in performing his job on the computer. And that is the reason, we call these apps the productivity apps.
So, what are the names of those apps? These apps are Mail app, Calendar app and the People app.
What Is Next After Windows 10 OS?
There was a rumour that a Microsoft employee stated that Windows 10 would be the last version of Windows. That means that Microsoft won’t release a new version of Windows in future any more. As per a Windows blog post in 2015, the Windows was transitioning to a service model.
This service model simply delivers updates to Windows 10 on the periodic basis. Those updates are meant for adding features and patching bugs on the “Windows 10” platform. However, whatever Microsoft adds to Windows, it’s still Windows, as we know.
In keeping with the plan for updates, Microsoft releases Patch Tuesday updates on the second Tuesday of every month. These updates provide security and other patches for the operating system and other software.
Apart from these updates, Microsoft planned for two major updates every year. And the company releases those updates one each in the first half and the second half of the year.
As per the plan, Microsoft released the Creators Update in April, 2017 and the Fall Creators Update in October, 2017.
The most recent update to Windows 10, May 21H1, rolled out in May. Expectedly, Microsoft would release the next update some time in October, 2021. The name of this update is the Sun Valley.
Prior to this Microsoft released two half yearly updates Windows 10 2004 and Windows 10 version 20H2 in April and October respectively of 2020.
