So, how is a blog different from the website? I will answer this questions and also the other questions as in paragraph one above. Let us keep going.

What Is A WordPress Blog?

When I started this site, the pkailash.com, I didn’t know if it is a blog or a website. Obviously, you would wonder, then what did I start – a blog or website. In fact, I had learnt that many bloggers use WordPress as a blogging platform. So, I wanted to learn WordPress. And started writing on this site whatever I learnt about WordPress. As my learning went ahead gradually, I continued publishing content about what I learnt.

That means, I have been updating this site on a regular basis. In that sense, the site I am publishing this post on is actually a blog.

Also, I have been using Windows PC for every thing that do on a computer. Even for writing this post, I have used a Windows 10 PC. So, I started writing about Windows operating system along with WordPress.

Since, I write about WordPress and Windows OS from my personal perspective, my site pkailash.com, this site, is actually a blog. Also, this site is a blog because I update it regularly. Since, I update it regularly, it is dynamic in nature, not static.

Do You Want To Build A WordPress Website?

Typical websites are static in nature. The content creators organise content in pages on the websites. And, they don’t update them regularly. That’s why the websites are static in nature.

Obviously, if you are going to write and publish some thing not from your very personal perspective, you need to build a website. Also, if yo are not going to update your site, then your site is going to be a website not a blog.

What Are The Differences Between The Blog And Website?

Are you wondering whether you should publish your content through a blog or a website? This update covers everything that you should know to distinguish between the two.

Now that you know what the blogs and websites are, you might have got a general idea about how they differ.

The Main Difference Between A Blog And Website

The most obvious and probably the only real difference between them is as follows:

  • The bloggers update their blogs regularly. That means, they publish the new content on their blog very frequently. On the blog, the posts are displayed in reverse chronological order. By reverse chronological order I mean the most recent post finds its place on the top. Then the WordPress displays the second, third an so on most recent posts . The most recent post that I published before this post is – How To Find Out What Version Of WordPress A Site Is Running – as in Figure 1 above
  • On the websites the content is organised in pages. The content writers do not not update the websites frequently. So, the websites are static

The Other Differences Between The Blog And Website

Blogs usually have a commenting section, where blog visitors can write their comments. However, the websites do not necessarily have a commenting section. Thus, the blogs are more interactive than websites.

However, the blogs may also be mingled with the websites. That means, a blog can be a part of a website too. As you might have seen, a blog also associates itself with a large business website.

As you see the front page of the Google AdSense website above. Although, it is a website, it has a link to the blog it publishes on some periodicity. This blog is a menu item on the right side of the main menu.

When you click the blog link, it displays the blog posts that are arranged in the reverse chronological order.

However, this blog is a menu item of the entire Google AdSense website.

In a nutshell, a blog is a subset of website. It it something like gaming PC Vs all types of PCs. That means a gaming PC is also a PC. It has the same components in general that any other PC has. However, it has been built to play games specifically.

Should You Have A Blog Or Website?

Nowadays, you don’t have to ponder over deciding whether you should have a blog or a website. As, a powerful platform like WordPress can power any type of website or blog, it makes it very easy to have a website and the blog together as one single site.

This site, on which you are reading this post is built on WordPress. As I mentioned earlier, I started it as a blog. However, as it grew over time, it took the shape of a website. So, I can say, its not just a blog. Also, it is not just a website. But its both.

Also, as you see in Figure 2 above, both types of sites can coexist on a single site. Thus, it is obvious that you don’t have to think of choosing one of the two to publish your content on the internet. Just start building a site on the WordPress platform. Your site may be a website in nature if has static pages. Later on, if you decide to have a blog, then add a blog component to it.

Even if you are a beginner on the WordPress platform, you can easily create a WordPress website or Blog while learning how to use the platform.

The WordPress started as a blogging platform. Ever since it started, it’s core software has been evolving with the passage of time. The WordPress is being used to create any type of site at present. It is, thus, used to build a blog as well as website.

The above fact supports the view that one should not spend energy and time on thinking whether to start a blog or a website.

WordPress Is Both A Blogging And Website Building Platform

As mentioned in the deliberations in the above paragraphs, there is no difference as regards the structure of any type of site. The reason for that is – the WordPress software provides the same real estate to build both of them.

However, you need certain other resources along with the WordPress core software to build a blog as well as a website. I have written following posts about creating blogs and websites. These posts mention what else, other than the WordPress CMS, you need to build any type of site.

How WordPress works to help you make your website? When you get into the details of building a site using WordPress, you will know, it is a flexible software that can accept inclusion of some small software that serve different purpose for your site. They are as follows

You can use WordPress to create your site, either website or a blog, to publish your content on the internet. WordPress core software doesn’t recognise if your site is a website or a blog.
